The full cost

Count the bill after the offer ends.

Separate the price of the medicine from the price of being cared for. Then ask what each will cost when the offer ends.

A starting price is not the whole bill.

Common mistake

The smallest number in the ad is the amount I will keep paying.

Many online weight-care plans in September 2026 billed medicine apart from their monthly membership charge.

Ask whether tests, repeat visits and delivery are included. Ask what is charged if the person assessing you does not write a prescription.

  • What ends after the first offer?
  • What repeats each month?
  • What must be paid up front?
  • How does cancellation work?

Cash prices need a date and conditions.

In September 2026, makers generally set cash prices between $149 and $499 a month for approved weight and diabetes medicines.

Some cash offers kept their lower price only if the next refill came within 45 days after the previous delivery; a later refill could cost more.

The amount called a “month” varies across products, and the figures cover medicine rather than a whole care plan.

Many terms for cash offers and savings cards expire on December 31, 2026; check prices again after that date.

Get a written quote for the exact product and ongoing care. A starting rate alone leaves too much out.

Insurance depends on the use and the plan.

Under September 2026 rules, even a medicine Medicare can pay for still has to be on your plan’s covered-drug list and meet its rules for permission to pay.

Give your plan the drug’s precise name and its proposed use when asking about coverage. Request the payment expected from you rather than the published list price.

The makers’ savings cards reduce bills for people with workplace or private insurance; people with Medicare or other government coverage cannot use these cards under September 2026 terms.

The card rules do not block every cash offer: someone with Medicare may still pay a maker’s cash price without using the card.

Your plan does not count payments outside insurance towards its yearly cap on your spending or the amount you must pay first.

Ask whether the advertised amount is a card discount or a cash price, and whether that exact offer accepts someone with your coverage.

Medicare has a temporary programme for some people.

Under September 2026 rules, Medicare’s usual drug benefit did not cover medicines used only for weight loss.

Eligible people can receive certain weight medicines through a separate programme called the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge.

The monthly payment for an eligible person was $50 in September 2026.

The programme’s planned start is July 1, 2026, with December 31, 2027 as its planned end.

Who qualifies depends on weight in relation to height, other health problems, past medicine coverage and the type of Medicare plan.

Type 2 diabetes rules out using this programme; medicine for those patients follows the usual Medicare drug plan rules.

You cannot use the programme in 2026 if, earlier in 2026, your Medicare drug plan paid for your GLP-1 medicine.

Have your prescriber check Medicare’s eligibility form using your health details, the name of your plan and your medicine history.

The $50 does not count towards the yearly spending cap for Medicare’s drug plan.

People on low incomes get no extra help with that payment.

Ask for a bill you can keep.

Request separate lines for the visit or membership, medicine, tests and delivery. Ask which lines could change and what would trigger that change.

For a medicine made to order, ask about the medical reason and the rules as well as the price.
