Can the first visit happen online?
A first visit may happen online if it can provide the care your health problem needs, according to medical board guidance.
Each state makes its own rules, so this guidance alone cannot tell you whether a particular online service can treat you.
Under September 2026 rules, a doctor providing care in New York generally needed a New York licence or other permission allowed by state law.
A doctor outside New York advising a New York doctor is one narrow case with different rules.
Ask what New York permission your treating professional has and who would arrange any needed exam or tests. If the service claims no New York licence is needed, check its explanation with the state’s Education Department.
Are blood tests required before every prescription?
As of September 2026, no general US rule required blood tests before every prescription.
That does not settle state requirements or drug-specific programmes, and it does not mean tests are never needed.
Ask your treating professional what each test could reveal and what would change in your care based on its result.
Does adding a vitamin make a made-to-order copy allowed?
A medicine made to order for a patient is called a compounded medicine.
Not by itself: in its September 2026 policy, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said a vitamin added to semaglutide may leave it classed as a copy of a ready-made medicine.
Federal law limits pharmacies and doctors making these copies regularly or in large amounts.
A change can avoid counting as a copy only if the prescriber records the important difference it makes for one named patient.
For a patient allergic to a dye, leaving that dye out of the medicine may meet a health need.
Making it cheaper does not qualify as a difference for that patient.
Ask about the change your health requires, why the ready-made product falls short for you, and where that reason has been recorded.
Can one pharmacy running out make copies allowed?
FDA’s national shortage list tracks medicines that are scarce nationwide; a single pharmacy running out is different, under September 2026 policy.
In September 2026, neither semaglutide injections nor tirzepatide appeared on FDA’s national shortage list.
When a medicine is on that list, the usual limits on making copies do not apply while it is listed.
A pharmacy cannot rely on that national shortage rule just because a local pharmacy has run out.
Does a drug code prove approval?
National Drug Code (NDC) means a product’s listing number in FDA’s drug directory.
Under September 2026 rules, having that number did not mean the medicine had FDA approval.
Ask for the product’s actual approval record rather than accepting a code as proof.
